Approved Welding Training Centre

Materials Engineering Group (MEG) was formed in the 1970's by the British Railways Board as a centre for Welder training and testing, Non Destructive Testing, Metallurgy, and Weld Repairs; as well as setting standards where standards had not previously existed.

Privatised in 1996, MEG has expanded from its original "Railway only" customer base to provide services to all industrial sectors including construction, military, power generation, utility services,  light rail, transportation, etc.

Based in purpose built offices and workshops located on Sawley Park industrial estate in Derby, MEG offers a fully operational welder training and test centre with an enviable reputation; capable of training and testing to national and international welding standards.

As a Zurich authorised and certificated welder test centre;  MEG provides Zurich endorsed 3rd party accreditation for all welding procedures and welder approvals. MEG's quality systems are accredited in accordance with ISO standards and hold current Link up accreditation. In addition we are an approved BESCA training and testing centre for the heating and ventilation industry.

Companies wishing to obtain CE certification need to comply with the requirements of BS EN 1090-2 2008+A1:2011.  MEG has guided and assisted structural steel companies in their compliance with this standard and certification.
